| Extended Reach ADSL
BT Wholesale have announced new limits on Broadband ADSL services, which means that home owners and businesses more than 6km away from their nearest telephone exchange, who couldn't previously get Broadband ADSL, will now be able to experience Fast, Unrestricted and Always connected Internet access using the Archer Broadband Broadband packages. You can use our ADSL checker to see if you're telephone line is suitable for Broadband ADSL: What are the new requirements? The reach limit for the 512kb/sec ADSL services is being removed and the range for the 1Mbps services will increase from 4km to approximately 6km (the previous 512Kpbs limit). Customers on long lines will be warned that they may need a visit from an engineer (at no extra charge) in the event that the line does not work first time, to look at ways of getting the customer working, for example installing an ADSL faceplate, or addressing customer wiring problems inside or outside the premises. How does the order process work? You can place an order for Broadband ADSL online or via telephone as normal. It is expected that service will not initially work in some cases, and in these instances you will need to contact us to arrange for a BT engineer to visit the premises and conduct a series of line tests, gather data and check/modify the internal wiring. How many people will be within these new limits? We believe that 1.1 million people are currently out of reach on enabled exchange, and a further 400,000 on exchanges due to be enabled. We anticipate that the extended reach work being carried out by BT will bring an extra 1 million users in range for the Home 512k/sec service. |
